Allergan Aids Australia Wildfire Relief
The worst wildfires seen in decades are raging through Australia, leaving thousands of people homeless and countless numbers with fire-related health issues. At least 27 people and 500 million animals have died in the catastrophic flames. Intensified by persistent heat and drought, authorities struggle to battle the massive blazes, even with first responder assistance from countries around the world.
Founded in 1968, Allergan operations in Australia had humble beginnings, marketing eye care products out of a tiny warehouse in Sydney. Fifty years later, 170 Allergan colleagues work within Australian operations
In total, Allergan is donating USD $90K (AUD $120K) in financial support, as well as providing product donations to aid in relief efforts. Here’s how Allergan and its colleagues are delivering relief to the Australia community:
- The Allergan Foundation has donated to Direct Relief, a humanitarian aid organization that is helping Australian agencies and organizations provide necessary supplies to the communities impacted by the wildfires.
- The Allergan International Foundation has donated to the Australian Red Cross, whose volunteers are distributing aid and providing comfort to those in need. In addition to helping communities cut off by the fires, the emergency teams have welcomed families in evacuation and recovery centers across New South Wales, Victoria, Western Australia and South Australia.
- Allergan Employees have contributed to Australia Red Cross and NSW Wildlife Information, Rescue and Education Service Inc. (WIRES), Australia’s largest wildlife rescue organization.
- Allergan Eye Care has donated REFRESH® products to the Rural Fire Services & WIRES. The products will be used by firefighters and first responders as they continue to battle the bushfires and support animal and wildlife rescue efforts in impacted areas.
