Tommie
Manufacturing Operations"At Westport, there is a great team atmosphere. Everyone here has a clear goal and works together toward getting the task done."
Prior to joining the Allergan manufacturing facility in Westport, County Mayo, Ireland, eight years ago, Tommie Killeen asked some of his friends who were already employees what it was like to work for the company. They told him that Allergan offered excellent career opportunities, a great working environment and a family-friendly culture. Happily, Tommie has found that the company has indeed lived up to his expectations.
Like many of his colleagues at the Westport facility, Tommie has enjoyed significant professional growth. He started at Allergan as a packaging supervisor, and then moved to aseptic filling supervisor, which provided him the chance to become involved in a new area of the plant's operations. He then was promoted to molding and sterilization manager, and in 2004, was promoted again to his current position as production manager for bulk manufacturing and aseptic filling for unidose and multidose products.
Over the past eight years, Tommie has found particular satisfaction being involved in the continual enhancement of Allergan's manufacturing operations processes and technologies. For example, for the past two years, Tommie and his team have been working to introduce a new technology for the filling process called RABS, or restricted access barrier system, which further enhances regulatory compliance from an operations standpoint. He also has been involved in the development of the manufacturing and operation processes for some of Allergan's key investigational products currently in clinical trials.
Tommie also is proud of the fact that, at the end of the day, everything he and his team does is patient-focused, with every enhancement made translating into benefits for the patients the company serves. He credits the success of the facility to teamwork and the high caliber of people employed by the company.
Beyond all of this, Tommie, a father of a nearly 2-year old boy and 4-year old girl, appreciates that Allergan puts a significant priority in fostering a family-friendly environment, noting how recently his family enjoyed the company holiday party for children. In thinking of his time at Allergan, Tommie says, "If I knew of someone interested in joining Allergan, gladly, I'd be able to tell them of the same benefits that were told to me when I was exploring coming to work here. I think this says a lot about working at Allergan."
