With a rich and promising pipeline of novel therapies with the potential to advance treatment paradigms, we continue to invest vigorously in our Research and Development (R&D) programs. In fact, we rank in the top quartile of our peer group companies for our R&D investment as a percentage of sales in both the pharmaceutical and medical device industries.⁽¹⁾ In 2007, we invested $646 million into R&D and have doubled our R&D spend over the last four years.⁽²⁾ With this in mind, we anticipate a number of major approvals this year and beyond to drive both mid- and long-term growth.
