OPTIVE™ Lubricant Eye Drops

OPTIVE™ Lubricant Eye Drops is an over-the-counter artificial tear, with a unique dual-action formula that lubricates and hydrates eyes to provide long-lasting relief from dry eye symptoms.2 Introduced in the United States in 2006, OPTIVE™ works in two ways to relieve the symptoms of dry eye by moisturizing the surface of the eye while also hydrating the eye at the cellular level where dry eye starts.
OPTIVE™ can be used as often as needed to relieve and treat intermittent dry eye symptoms, including irritation or dryness, a sandy or gritty sensation and/or a burning or stinging sensation. OPTIVE™ is best suited for the relief of intermittent dry eye symptoms and is available in a convenient multi-use bottle.
In 2008, OPTIVE™ Sensitive Preservative-Free Lubricant Eye Drops was introduced as an over-the-counter artificial tear recommended for dry eye and post-LASIK dryness. OPTIVE™ Sensitive is preservative-free, containing no added sodium chloride. A study of 316 dry eye patients who received OPTIVE™ Sensitive demonstrated improvement in six common signs and symptoms of dry eye when compared to their prior experience with REFRESH PLUS®.3 In addition, 228 patients who used OPTIVE™ Sensitive and had undergone LASIK surgery experienced less ocular surface staining at two weeks after surgery when compared to patients who used REFRESH PLUS®.4 OPTIVE™ Sensitive is available in single-use vials.
